Last day!
10min warmup
5 min shimmy drilling with arm layering and some level changes
5 min hipwork on the down
20 min going over RB's Hagallah combo
10min cooldown
Ahh, can it really be the end of the challenge? It was a good way to really see what I was doing day-to-day and satisfying on particularly busy days! I was also challenged to come up with creative ways to practice or at least consider my dance on traveling/busy days. Despite occasionally grumping about travel, I really miss the routine of my weekly classes. Going to enjoy the New Year, and look forward to classes and troupe rehearsals starting back up.
Thank you to Aepril Schaile and her students for inspring me to take this up!
(Tomorrow: zills and swordwork)

Days 11-20 (dang)
I have been keeping up with my practice, but not my journaling!
Day 11
3.5 hrs - Danced at Temple :D
Day 12
15min - Practiced belly rolls in the car (to NY)
Day 13
15 min - Shoulder rolls and belly rolls in the car (en route to PA)
Day 14
1 hr - walked the fields of darkest Pennsylvania
Day 15
15 min- more belly rolls in the car. Good thing these are easy to do while sitting. I am seeing some progress.
Day 16
Finally at my folks house, where there is a mirror and 3 feet of space in my sisters room. All this travel made practice difficult.
20 min - general fun practice, dancing to songs I enjoy off of rdio.
15 min- listened to my song for Arisia a few times, made choreography notes. Felt confident about the piece.
Day 17
Christmas--
15 min
20min planned, did some research for Arisia costume
Day 18
30min - Went to fabric store to gather materials for Arisia costume.
Day 19
Another travel day-feh!
15 min of belly rolls in car
Day 20
HOME YES FINALLY
10 min warm up
20min practicing hipwork on the down
10 min bellyrolls since I finally had a mirror. Pretty good! I am not so great at isolating my upper stomach muscles, so flutters are still a ways off. Succeeded in making my tummy look like an alien, which is awesome
20 min on Arisia piece. Less enthused on this day, but I will keep at it.

Day 10
10min warm-up
5 min Shimmy drill (glute, knee, choo-choo to wassup wassup by diplo [crookers remix])
20min Put on a playlist and danced through it. I did some maya/taqseem drills-star formation, pinball, coil, and some foot patterns-mostly chasse step
20min Swordwork: tossing it from hand to hand, barrel turn, flash turns, and generally swinging it around. I am developing some calluses on my dominant sword hand, which is exciting. Left hand, still not so good. I am seeing an improvement on swinging my sword around and around in my right hand. It'd probably be easier with a lighter sword, but I'm in love with my nearly 3 pound gal.
5min Mock attacking spinach quesadillas in progress with my sword, to my partners chagrin. Channeling this guy:
10min Doing the down hip scales from Datura Online.
5 min Reviewing my song for Arisia. I've improvised to this song successfully in class, but lately I am rushing through it since I know I have a performance coming up. Gotta sink into it.
10min Cool down
Tomorrow is my last day of work before vacation and then the real test begins.

Day 9
Had to miss class with Sarah Jezebel today--stayed late at work wrapping up everything before I leave for vacation. Yarr. :/
1 hr - Listened to an interview with Rosa Noreen on the BellyDanceGeek podcast, took notes on when to pause during music
5 min glute squeezes at desk
10 min researching costuming for Arisia piece. It's so soon, I need to get all my Daenerys bits and pieces together.
Etc. Made black bean quesadillas for dinner, mm.

Day 6
15 min stealthily practicing belly rolls on the train, Hobbit-bound
Day 7
15 min practicing zill patterns (mostly beledi and runs)
Day 8
Cirque Damara practice
30min Yoga
20min strength training
1 hr various drills
30 minworkshopping the last third of choreography.
Discussion of upcoming troupe year
I am looking forward to 2013, dance-wise.

Day 4
American Cabaret class with Nadira!
1.5 hrs
Review of this past semester
3/4 shimmy on the up, gliding walk, jewel, undulations, one-hip circle and figure 8
10 min glute shimmy drill with layers (side to side and hip circle)
Review of choreography with zills
Good class, dancing with zills is fun and Nadira choreographed a fast-paced choregraphy I really enjoy dancing to. It's fun to slip into merry dancer-mode when the pieces I work on at home tend towards dark. I have been awash in gargoyles lately.
Soy haddock and rice for dinner.

Day 3
Cirque Damara practice
Yoga - 30min
Strength training (mostly feet and hands/wrists) - 15min
Various drills, mostly shimmies, abwork, chest/arm drills - 1.5 hr
Tea break! 20min
Second Mini Warm-up - 5min
Choreo brainstorming/workshopping - 40 min
Dinner: pesto on rotini with tomatoes.
Yay. Tired, have Caberet tomorrow with Nadira. I hear American Cabaret being referred to as Vintage Orientale? I like it, but "AmCab" rolls off my admittedly lazy tongue easier.

Day 2
1.5 hr class with Sarah Jezebel Wood.
Lots of popping and locking drilling, hips on the down, squats, belly roll practice, arms.
Belly rolls are so necessary for me, I think I use my spine too much. Gotta get into those abdominals. Belly flutters are pretty non-existent, it's another thing to work on.
My partner is making cilantro rice and chicken. Yarrr, hungry.

Inspired by Aepril Schaile and her students, I will begin chronicling my daily dancing. Fifteen minutes a day is enough to get movements into muscle memory, which is something both my regular dance teacher Nadira Jamal and Aepril have both pointed out. This will also be a good way to pinpoint what I am avoiding. (I suspect what may be getting neglected are zills and turns.)
So, here we go:
Day 1 (yesterday):
15 min warm-up (abbreviated version of Nadira's class warm-up)
15 min shimmy drilling
10 min reviewing pinball #1
30 min sword practice
30 min noodling with Cirque Damara choreography
15 minutes reviewing my Arisia piece and music
15 min yoga cool down
Then I ate homemade deepdish pizza, had a Chocolate Stout and played Skyrim the rest of the night. Gotta get my manor built and catch all the butterflies, y'know?
